How this text reader works
This tool uses the Web Speech API built into your browser or device. It breaks long text into short sentences before speaking because browsers can stop a very long speech request part way through. The text stays in the browser tab; it is not uploaded to this website.
The voices depend on your browser, operating system and installed language packs. A voice marked online is supplied by the browser or device provider instead of a local voice. That provider may process the text to make the speech. A local voice normally stays on your device. The labels come from the browser, so availability varies between phones and computers.
No MP3 or WAV download
Browsers allow a page to ask their built-in voices to speak, but do not let a page record those voices as an audio file. This is therefore a listening tool, not an MP3 converter. Making downloadable audio would need a server speech engine or a large in-browser voice model, neither of which is used here.
Tips for clearer speech
Use punctuation to make the voice pause naturally. Put abbreviations on their own line if a voice reads them oddly, and use a slower speed for dense material. Most browsers remember the selected voice only for the current page, so check the controls again when you return.
Limitations
- This tool plays speech only; browsers do not let it save their built-in voices as MP3 or WAV files.
- Voices and languages vary by browser and device. Hindi and other Indian voices are not installed everywhere.
- Online voices can send text to Google, Microsoft or another device provider. Choose a local voice for the most private option.
- Some voices do not support sentence highlighting, and pausing behaves differently on some mobile browsers.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded?
No. This site does not receive the text. A voice labelled online may be provided by your browser or device provider, which can process the text to speak it.
Can I download an MP3?
No. Browser speech voices can be played but a web page cannot record them as an MP3 or WAV file.
Why is my preferred language missing?
The list comes from the voices installed in your current browser and operating system. Install a language or voice pack in your device settings, then reopen the page.
