How to use SIP Calculator

  1. Step 1: Enter the monthly amount

Use the amount you expect to invest every month, not an amount borrowed for investing.

  2. Step 2: Set assumptions

Add a return, time period and any yearly step-up or starting lump sum you want to illustrate.

  3. Step 3: Read the estimate

Compare what you invest with the estimated value and review the year-by-year table.

How this SIP estimate works

A systematic investment plan puts the same amount into an investment every month. This calculator assumes each instalment is invested at the beginning of the month. It applies the annual return you enter as the same monthly return throughout the period, then repeats that process month by month.

You can add a yearly step-up when you expect to increase your SIP after a salary increase or a change in budget. A 10% step-up means a ₹5,000 monthly SIP becomes ₹5,500 after one year, then ₹6,050 after two years. A starting lump sum is added with the first monthly instalment and earns the same assumed return.

What the numbers mean

Total invested is the money you put in through SIP instalments and any starting lump sum. Estimated gains are the difference between that amount and the calculated future value. The inflation-adjusted figure shows what the future value might be worth in today's purchasing power at the inflation rate you choose.

The calculation is an illustration, not an investment forecast. Mutual fund and market returns vary from month to month and can be negative. Expense ratios, exit loads, taxes, the actual SIP date and missed instalments are not included. Do not choose a return just because it makes the future value look attractive.

Formula convention

For a fixed SIP, the familiar future-value formula is P × ((1 + i)^n - 1) ÷ i × (1 + i), where P is the monthly instalment, i is the monthly return and n is the number of months. The step-up and lump-sum options are calculated month by month so their timing is clear.

Limitations

  • Real returns are uneven and are not guaranteed.
  • Taxes, fund fees, exit loads and missed instalments are not included.
  • The inflation figure is an illustration, not a prediction.
  • This is not investment advice.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator guarantee my SIP return?

No. It applies the same assumed return every month so you can compare scenarios. Actual investment returns can be higher or lower.

When is the SIP instalment counted?

It is counted at the beginning of each month, so that month also earns the assumed return.

What is a SIP step-up?

A step-up increases the monthly investment once each year by the percentage you select.
