How to use GPA Calculator
-
Step 1: Add your courses
Enter each course’s grade and credit hours. Choose letter grades or percentages and select weighted courses where your school uses them.
-
Step 2: Check the scale
Edit the grade points to match your school’s policy, including whether A+ is 4.0 or 4.3.
-
Step 3: Plan ahead
Optionally add previous GPA and credits for a cumulative GPA, then enter a target and future credits to estimate what is needed.
How GPA is calculated
For each course, the calculator multiplies the grade points by the course credits. Adding those quality points and dividing by total credits gives the term GPA. If you enter an earlier cumulative GPA and its completed credits, the tool combines those earlier quality points with this term.
The default table is a common 4.0 scale, but schools differ. Some award 4.3 for A+, use different plus/minus values, cap weighted courses, or convert percentages differently. Edit the table and weighting bonus to match your school’s policy before relying on a result.
Target GPA planner
The target planner works backward from a desired cumulative GPA. It assumes all future credits receive the same average GPA and that the grading scale stays the same. It cannot predict course-level grades, retakes, replacement policies or other academic rules.
This calculator is not a credential evaluation. For admissions, visa or transcript purposes, follow the conversion policy of the receiving institution or a qualified evaluator.
Limitations
- Grade-point tables, weighting and rounding rules differ by school.
- Percentage-to-letter-grade ranges are only a common example; edit or verify them against your school’s policy.
- The target planner assumes a single average over future credits and does not model retakes or grade replacement.
- Results are not an official conversion for admissions, visas or credential evaluations.
Frequently asked questions
Is A+ a 4.0 or 4.3?
Both policies exist. The default is 4.0, and you can edit the grade-point table to use your school’s policy.
How is cumulative GPA calculated?
The calculator turns the previous GPA into quality points, adds this term’s quality points and divides by all completed credits.
Can I calculate weighted GPA?
Yes. Turn on weighted courses, set your school’s bonus and tick the relevant courses. Check your school’s cap and weighting rules.
