How to use Delete PDF Pages

  1. Step 1: Add your PDF

Drag and drop a PDF or choose it from your device. Small previews of its pages appear.

  2. Step 2: Mark the pages to delete

Click the pages you want to remove, or type their numbers such as 2, 5-7. The panel shows how many pages will remain.

  3. Step 3: Delete and download

Press “Delete pages” and download the new PDF, which has “-edited” added to the original name.

How deleting pages works

You mark the pages you want to remove by clicking their previews or by typing page numbers and ranges such as 2, 5-7 (“8-” means page 8 to the end). Before you save, the panel shows how many pages the new PDF will have. The tool will not delete every page, because a PDF needs at least one.

When you press “Delete pages”, the pages you keep are copied, in their original order, into a new PDF. This is done by pdf-lib, a JavaScript PDF library, usually in a background thread of your browser. Your original file is not changed.

Why a new file is made

A PDF editor can hide a deleted page but leave its content inside the file, where it can still be found. This tool copies only the pages you keep, so the removed pages, and any pictures or text that only they used, really leave the file. The new PDF is usually smaller as a result.

What is kept and what is not

Kept in the new PDF:

  • Page content: text, images, fonts and drawings, unchanged and not re-drawn, so text stays searchable.
  • Page size and rotation of every kept page.
  • Links and comments on the kept pages. A link to another kept page still works; a link to a deleted page is removed.
  • Document properties: the title, author, subject and keywords.

Not kept:

  • Bookmarks (the outline panel in PDF readers).
  • Fillable form fields may stop being editable. Text that was already filled in usually stays visible.
  • Digital signatures, because a signature only covers the original file.

Tips

  • To remove the blank backs of a double-sided scan, press “Even pages” to mark pages 2, 4, 6 and so on, check the previews, and unmark any page that is not blank.
  • To keep only a few pages of a long document, the “Extract pages” option of Split PDF may be quicker.

Password-protected PDFs

A PDF that needs a password to open has to be unlocked first. PDFs whose owner has restricted editing are refused, because this tool does not remove such restrictions.

Privacy

Your PDF is processed by JavaScript on your own device. It is not uploaded to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Limitations

  • Bookmarks are not kept, fillable form fields may stop working, and links to deleted pages are removed.
  • At least one page has to remain in the PDF.
  • PDFs that need a password, and PDFs with owner restrictions, must be unlocked first. For encrypted PDFs that open without a password, the document properties are not copied either.
  • Previews are shown for the first 200 pages. Later pages can be deleted by typing their numbers.
  • Whole pages are deleted. Part of a page, such as one picture or paragraph, cannot be removed here.

Frequently asked questions

How do I delete one page from a PDF?

Click that page’s preview so it is marked “Delete”, or type its number, then press “Delete pages” and download the new PDF.

Can I delete several pages at once?

Yes. Click as many pages as you like, Shift-click to mark a run of pages, or type numbers and ranges such as 2, 5-7, 12-.

Is the content of the deleted pages really gone?

Yes. Only the pages you keep are copied into the new PDF, so the deleted pages and anything only they used are not in the new file. Your original file on your device is not changed.

Why can I not delete every page?

A PDF must contain at least one page, so the tool asks you to keep at least one.

Does deleting pages change the quality of the other pages?

No. The kept pages are copied as they are, without being converted to images, so text and pictures look exactly as before.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and saved by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to our server.

Extract pages from a PDF, or split it into several files: one per page, every few pages or by your own ranges. Works in your browser.

Drag page thumbnails into a new order, or type the order you want, and save the PDF with its pages rearranged.

Rotate all or selected PDF pages by 90 or 180 degrees and save the file, without re-drawing the page content.

Combine several PDF files into one document, in the order you choose. The files are merged in your browser and never uploaded.

Count the pages in one or many PDF files at once and see a total with each file’s page size, handy for print cost estimates.

Convert PDF pages to JPG or PNG images at 72, 150 or 300 DPI. Pick the pages, then download one image or a ZIP of all of them. Nothing is uploaded.
