How to use Rotate PDF Pages
-
Step 1: Add your PDF
Drag and drop a PDF or choose it from your device. Small previews of its pages appear.
-
Step 2: Turn the pages
Use the arrows under a page, or select pages and press Left 90°, Right 90° or 180°. The previews turn straight away.
-
Step 3: Save and download
Press “Save rotated PDF” and download the file, which has “-rotated” added to the original name.
How rotating works
Every PDF page has a rotation setting that tells PDF readers and printers how to turn the page. This tool changes that setting for the pages you choose and saves the PDF again. Nothing on the page is re-drawn or converted, so text stays sharp and searchable, and the file size hardly changes.
The turn you choose is added to the page's existing rotation. A scanned page that was stored sideways with a rotation of 90° and is turned 90° to the left ends up upright with a rotation of 0°. Pages whose rotation is stored in an unusual form, such as −90° or 450°, are read the way PDF readers show them, so the previews always match what you see in your PDF reader.
Choosing the pages
- One page: use the arrows under its preview.
- Several pages: click their previews (Shift-click selects a run of pages) or type page numbers such as
1-3, 8, then press Left 90°, Right 90° or 180°. - Every page: with no pages selected, the buttons turn the whole document.
The previews show the result before you save, and “Undo all rotation” puts every page back the way it was. Nothing is changed in your file until you press “Save rotated PDF”, and even then the original stays untouched on your device: you download a new copy.
What is kept
The PDF is saved with all its other contents. Text, images, links, bookmarks, form fields and document properties stay as they were; only the rotation setting of the turned pages changes.
There is one exception. An encrypted PDF that opens without a password and allows changes is saved as a new, unencrypted copy of its pages, the same way Merge PDF handles such files. Bookmarks and form fields are not kept for those files.
Password-protected PDFs
A PDF that needs a password to open has to be unlocked first: open it with the password in a PDF app and save a copy without one. PDFs whose owner has restricted editing are refused, because this tool does not remove such restrictions.
Privacy
Your PDF is read, changed and saved by JavaScript on your own device, usually in a background thread of your browser. It is not uploaded to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Limitations
- Pages turn in steps of 90°. A slightly tilted scan cannot be straightened (deskewed) here.
- Any digital signature in the file becomes invalid, because the PDF is saved again.
- PDFs that need a password, and PDFs with owner restrictions on editing, must be unlocked first.
- Encrypted PDFs that open without a password are saved as a new, unencrypted copy, without bookmarks or form fields.
- Previews are shown for the first 200 pages. Later pages can still be rotated by typing their numbers.
- Everything happens in your browser's memory, so very large files can fail on phones; use a computer for those.
Frequently asked questions
How do I rotate just one page of a PDF?
Use the arrows under that page’s preview to turn it left or right, then press “Save rotated PDF”. The other pages are not changed.
Is the rotation saved permanently?
Yes. The new rotation is stored in the PDF, so every PDF reader and printer shows the pages the way you turned them. The rotate button in many PDF readers only changes the view until you close the file.
Does rotating reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. Only the rotation setting of the page changes. Text, images and fonts are not re-drawn or compressed, so they look exactly as before.
Are links and bookmarks kept?
Yes. The PDF is saved with all its contents and only the rotation of the pages you turned changes. Encrypted PDFs that open without a password are the exception: they are saved as a new copy of their pages without bookmarks.
Why is my PDF refused?
The message tells you why. Usually the file needs a password to open, its owner has restricted editing, or it is damaged. Unlock it, or save a new copy from your PDF reader, and add it again.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened and saved by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to our server.
